Resolve To Be Kind

It’s the start of a new year and that means it’s time for New Years Resolutions. After the tough year that we all just endured we are all hopeful for a better 2021. With that in mind, don’t stress and try to make some big promise to yourself or others that will just make life harder. Focus on something small and attainable. The best small thing you can do is to be kind. An act of kindness may not change the world, but a life of kindness just might. If everyone could just make their New Years Resolution to be kind then maybe we could change the world even in the smallest of ways. We could all use a little more kindness in our lives.

Being kind doesn’t just mean being nice to everyone it means to act with your heart and have empathy. In the popular British tv series Doctor Who the titular character The Doctor says “Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind.” To be kind to another person can mean the world to them, the way that a person is treated can have a profound affect on them. At the same time it’s just as important to be kind to yourself. Growing up I was taught the “Golden Rule” which is “treat others as you would like the to treat you.” This maxim is in essence what it means to be kind to yourself and others. We’ve all been a little down this past year that’s why we all need to give each other a little more patience and kindness.

So as we embark on this new year and try to make our lives better keep that in mind with everything you do and say. Before you act or speak ask your self are you being kind to yourself and others with your actions. How would your words or actions make you feel if the roles were reversed? The way you treat someone else could affect their whole day and if you treat them with kindness then it will be a positive.

It will never be easy, but nothing in life that is truly worthy ever will be. Not everyone is going to be this way to you, but don’t let that get you down. If someone comes at you with negativity then just give them back as much positivity and kindness as possible.
